Are We Thankful, or Shopaholics?

Hello Lovelies!

I hope you had a great weekend! Though Thanksgiving is a US holiday, I’ve noticed that many countries do some kind of “giving thanks” celebration around this time of year. Even if they don’t do the big dinner, SHOPPING has definitely become a big tradition!

Yes, I’m a shopper who loves a great deal, no doubt. However, I’m not crazy about the Black Friday frenzy. Getting up in the middle of the night to go stand in a long line to MAYBE get a discounted item is not my idea of a good time! In the States, the Black Friday mayhem has gotten so crazy that many stores open on Thanksgiving night! Sometimes fights break out, prompting extra security to patrol these crowds. Have we gone too far?

What happened to spending time with family and friends? Going to a movie? Passing out after gorging ourselves?

For me, I try to find balance between finding meaning in the holiday season while finding a good deal for gifts. Most of all, I think it’s fun to be creative when coming up with a gift for a friend or family member. Since I can’t go home for the holidays, I want people to know that I put some real thought behind what I chose.

Right now, I am thankful for the good health the Hubby and I have, a safe and lovely place to live, careers which challenge and make us happy, and for the love we share. I am especially proud of him today, as he just got promoted! Of course, I had to look fierce for the ceremony!

I mentioned in my last post that I got a Fit Bit. Not wanting to take it off today, I decided to create an arm party and dress it up! Not bad, huh?

Just add sparkle!

Cozy Comforts and Cyber Monday Madness!

Hello all!

So, I admit it: I’m not a huge fan of cold weather. Though I’m originally from Michigan, I just could not get into skiing, snowmobiling, or any kind of cold weather sport. However, I do enjoy wrapping myself up in a cozy sweater and drinking some coffee with Kahlua!

As some of you curvy gals know, sometimes it’s hard to find sweaters that don’t add bulk or offer no shape. However, I found this great sweater dress from H&M which works with leggings, tights, or skinny jeans!

Ringing in the New Year, Gatsby Style!

With every new year, there is a feeling of starting over, doing something better, or giving up a vice. Honesty, I’m not sure about a “resolution,” but I know that a goal for me in 2014 will be gaining back strength, endurance, and flexibility after my surgery happens in a couple of weeks. Not being able to go for long walks, climb stairwells without grimacing, or teach a dance class got me feeling down a bit, however, I am very hopeful for what is to come. Here’s to better days!

The ringing in of this new year started off with a bang (literally, Germans LOVE to set off BIG fireworks in the streets!) by partying it up at a “Great Gatsby” theme party! So, what’s a girl to do when her closet lacks 1920s inspiration? Go shopping, of course!

I was excited to see that H&M has become more stylish in the Plus department. Many retailers are finally getting on the bandwagon that we curvy girls want to wear hot, fashionable styles, and it’s about time! Here’s what I scored from H&M:

The Hubby and I had a fantastic time with friends. Lots of dancing, singing, and eating a delicious “Tres Leches” (Three Milks) cake, which is a tradition in the Latin culture. I would describe it as a very fancy Twinkie! Delicious!

Along with the popping of champagne, we were treated to Columbian cigars! I am not a smoker, but every once in a blue moon I like to have a cigar. Very 1920s, indeed.

Here’s to a prosperous new year full of love and laughter!
