March-ing Forward into Spring Style!

Hafa Adai, Lovelies!

“Hafa Adai” in Guam is Chamorro for “Hello.” Although living here is pretty much an endless summer, I do enjoy changing up my style to reflect the season. After watching several Fashion Week videos, here’s what I’m loving so far:

  1. Silkscreen/Painted Prints.
Victoria Beckham, S/S 2016.

Victoria Beckham, S/S 2016.

Victoria Beckham and Gucci lead the charge using these types of photo prints. Gucci also brought more embroidered silks to the runway. Gorgeous!!

2. Easy Pieces.

DKNY S/S 2016

DKNY S/S 2016

Though DKNY and Calvin Klein stuck to mostly a black and white palette, I do love the mix and match of separates offered. Michael Kors also showed lots of jersey dresses and wrap skirts. Too many times, a designer will create a look that only works with EVERYTHING shown. We need mixing options! Glad to see these designers understand that!

3. Fashion REAL women can wear.

Carolina Herrera S/S 2016

Carolina Herrera S/S 2016

Fashion should be fun and have an element of fantasy. However, we still need to be able to wear clothes for work, weekends, etc., AND should be “wearable” for women of all sizes.

Carolina Herrera’s show offered several looks which work for real life and for women over a size 4. She showed many skirt/top combinations and dresses which emphasize the waist and hide possible problem areas for women.

Carolina Herrera S/S 2016

Of course…we don’t all have the budgets to afford looks off the runway, but we can get inspired and find style that won’t break the bank!

I did a wardrobe purge and freshened it up with new pieces from Forever 21 Plus.

I am in head to toe F21, working the black and white trend for Spring. These platform mules are crazy comfortable, and these cargo pants are lightweight and soft. Throw on a fun tee and sparkly accessories, and I’m ready for date night:)

Are We Thankful, or Shopaholics?

Hello Lovelies!

I hope you had a great weekend! Though Thanksgiving is a US holiday, I’ve noticed that many countries do some kind of “giving thanks” celebration around this time of year. Even if they don’t do the big dinner, SHOPPING has definitely become a big tradition!

Yes, I’m a shopper who loves a great deal, no doubt. However, I’m not crazy about the Black Friday frenzy. Getting up in the middle of the night to go stand in a long line to MAYBE get a discounted item is not my idea of a good time! In the States, the Black Friday mayhem has gotten so crazy that many stores open on Thanksgiving night! Sometimes fights break out, prompting extra security to patrol these crowds. Have we gone too far?

What happened to spending time with family and friends? Going to a movie? Passing out after gorging ourselves?

For me, I try to find balance between finding meaning in the holiday season while finding a good deal for gifts. Most of all, I think it’s fun to be creative when coming up with a gift for a friend or family member. Since I can’t go home for the holidays, I want people to know that I put some real thought behind what I chose.

Right now, I am thankful for the good health the Hubby and I have, a safe and lovely place to live, careers which challenge and make us happy, and for the love we share. I am especially proud of him today, as he just got promoted! Of course, I had to look fierce for the ceremony!

I mentioned in my last post that I got a Fit Bit. Not wanting to take it off today, I decided to create an arm party and dress it up! Not bad, huh?

What #BeautyIs…

Hello lovelies,

What is beauty? What do you consider to be beautiful? I’ve been thinking a lot about this idea lately, mostly because so many women and girls are subjected to a marketed ideal which for many, is unattainable. As a beauty and fashion blogger, I am committed to writing about and showing diverse versions of beauty. Maybe if more of us did, we can combat the  unrealistic, photoshopped messages and embrace who we really are!

Beauty Is…

  1. Trying something new.
The awesome Carmen.

The awesome Carmen.

My dear friend Carmen, who is already an accomplished actor, director, and ballroom dancer, decided she wanted a new challenge and a new way to get healthy. So, in her late 30s, she picked up a whole new sport! Fierce.

2. Creating Your Own Trend.

The unique and awesome Jakey!

The unique and awesome Jakey!

Jakey (another dear friend!) has always followed her own lead in fashion. She’s worked every hair color you can think of, can pull off just about any style, because she’s fearless!

3. Making Your Life Happen.

My beautiful cousin, Jax.

My beautiful cousin, Jax.

Though she had a steady job and was doing well in her hometown’s college, Jax (real name: Jacqueline) wanted more. She took a risk, aimed high, and ended up becoming an Editor in Chief of a major college newspaper. She’s also about to graduate and launch a new career. Well done!

4. Not Settling for Less Than You Deserve.

My BFF of several years, Debby.

My BFF of several years, Debby.

Debby is practically my sister. We’ve been best friends since age 4, and we’ve seen one another through all kinds of ups and downs. A couple of years ago, she was in a miserable relationship which had practically stolen her bubbly lightness and joy. Though it was difficult, she summoned the courage to leave the man who brought her pain. By not setting for someone who did not appreciate the beautiful person she is, she now has a wonderful relationship! Don’t EVER settle. You don’t know what you are missing out on!

5. Celebrating Your Body, Your Spirit.

Bikini CU

So many of us wait until we’ve got the “perfect body” before we’ll put on a bikini, wear a swimsuit, or even go to the beach. I haven’t worn a bikini in 15 years, and I’m tired of waiting. Let’s not let media decide how we should feel about ourselves. Be proud to be you!

6. Facing the World Through Challenges.

The lovely Beth!

The lovely Beth!

Recently I learned that Beth, one of my high school classmates, is facing cancer. Though her prognosis is good, she is still dealing with the harshness of chemo. I love that she put herself out on Facebook with a red lip and a sparkle in her eye! Get ’em, girl! You’ve got this.

Beauty is not what comes out of a bottle, a syringe, by an Instagram filter, or off a clothes rack. It’s truly how we see ourselves and how we treat the world around us. Let’s celebrate what truly #BeautyIs!

#ShopMyCloset Part 2: Being Comfortably Chic with Athleisure

Blk floral

Hello Lovelies!

One of the new trends in fashion I’m LOVING is the “athleisure” look. The best way I describe the style is “yoga gone glam.” It’s not just throwing on sweatpants and sneaks (though those are comfy!); it’s selecting the type of material and cut of the clothes that takes the “workout” out of the look.  Since Guam is such a laid back place, this style works PERFECTLY for me. It’s more elevated than t shirts and shorts.

For instance: Here’s a typical gym look.

CELEBRITY-WORKOUT-STYLE

Athleisure has a more structured look and feel, though it borrows heavily from yoga wear.  The pants are tailored; the shoes are either glam kicks, booties, or heels.

The key to nailing the look is to keep it grounded. If you are a 20 something or younger, you can get away with more embellishments and brighter colors. However, those of us 30 and older look more chic in neutrals, black, whites.

I shopped my closet and came up with this look with a beach hoodie, a high/low t shirt dress from Express, leggings from Forever 21 Plus, and wedge sandals from Shoedazzle.  I added a little sparkle with accessories.

What I love the most about athleisure is that I can wear it from running errands to joining my hubby to dinner and still be comfy and chic!

#ShopMyCloset Part 1: The ABCs

Glasses, Cover Girl

Glasses, Cover Girl

Hey Divas! So, I’ve been keeping my pledge to #shopmycloset and not buy anything new for three months, BUT I do get bored easily with my style. How to change it up? By using the ABCs – Accessories, Bold Color, and Cosmetics!

A is for Accessories

A couple of years ago, I finally accepted that I needed reading glasses.  Not wanting to settle for anything dowdy, I chose this foxy pair from Cover Girl. Now, I like to put these on for a “nice but naughty” look for date night!

Glasses 1

Who can forget the power of a hot pair of heels? Since I was rocking all black for my outfit, I had to go all out with these gold metallic from Charlotte Russe.

B: Bold Color

The easiest way to change up your look without a commitment is using temporary color in the hair. When I was in between hair appointments and the white hairs were popping out, I grabbed some lip stain and streaked it in. I loved the effect so much, I ended up getting red highlights at my appointment!

This was just some lip stain! Washed out easily!

C: Cosmetics

Of course, makeup can change the whole feel and mood of your look. I’ve been experimenting with glam and natural, and I’ve really come to embrace the minimal as well as the glamorous.

Resurrecting My You Tube Channel!

Hey lovelies!

How has your week been? It’s been a bit up and down for me, as I ended up having to get a molar pulled this morning (yuck!). So, I’m all drugged up with nothing to do on a Friday night – except I can devote some time to you!

Anyway, I have a You Tube channel that I recently brought back from the dead by making a new video! Now, I don’t have a fancy pants camera or special lighting, but I do my best to be entertaining. Here I reveal some tricks on looking younger and taking care of the skin!

I review the fantastic Younique magic lashes, Josie Maran Argan Oil, and Acure Moisturizer.  Please check it out and let me know what you think!

Here’s a look I rocked a few days ago – a new dress from my London shopping at Primark! Five pounds for this dress! Oh yeah.

Ready for a New Adventure

Cranberry dress 3

Guten Tag, everyone!

How was your weekend? A few days ago, it was a little warmer than usual so I was able to do some outdoor pics for a change. We have this lovely country area around where we live, and it’s perfect for going on long walks.

As I strutted, twirled, and played Supermodel, I realized that very soon we would be leaving Germany. As much I am looking forward to our next adventure (in GUAM!), I’ve become attached to the culture, the friends I’ve made, and this beautiful area.

Cranberry dress 5

We’ve been here almost four years, and it blows my mind how many countries and landmarks we’ve seen, the wonderful people who’ve come into our lives, and the opportunities I’ve gained as a performer.

Most of all, I’ve gained a greater sense of comfort about who I am.  If I’m curvier or slimmer, it does not matter. I’m still fine.

And so, Germany – I thank you for the adventure. I will treasure these last few weeks, and the memories made.

And just a reminder….I’m giving away this Marilyn Monroe wallet! Giveaway ends soon, so good luck!
