When you have a bad hair day…

Ah, summer. It’s a time of lightweight tees, floaty maxi dresses, sandals, and shorts! With all these wonderful things we love to wear, it’s also a time for humidity, which means…BAD HAIR DAYS!

As you can see, I keep my hair short in a hybrid of Halle Berry and mid 1980s Sheena Easton. Most times, it looks like this:

But since my hair is thick and naturally curly, on those especially sticky days, there’s no amount of product that can tame my curly top!

So during our trip to Italy, I took a cue from Jennifer Lopez and worked a mini turban with a scarf!

Have I mentioned how gorgeous Florence, Italy is? On “Turban Day,” we checked out this beautiful Basilica.

When I have “manageable” frizz, these are my favorite go to products:

My new favorite hairspray is L’Oreal’s Elnett Satin. Yes, it is a bit pricey (usually around $16), but TOTALLY worth it.

I’ve never had a hairspray that allowed a good hold AND I could still run my fingers through!

What’s YOUR favorite hair tricks and products for summer?

BY THE WAY…CONGRATULATIONS to my Parisian Giveaway winner, Cheryl from fatandfabulousme!

Be sure to check out her blog, it’s pretty awesome!

Thanks to everyone who entered! Don’t worry, I will be starting a ONCE A MONTH GIVEAWAY, so stay tuned for August!

Love, laugher and shoes…

Am I a Fashion Victim?

I really enjoy blogging about fashion; it’s become a new passion in my life. However, I am noticing that I am much more susceptible to buying clothes and makeup than ever before! Other bloggers’ looks, enticing emails of special sales, magazine layouts, and Birchbox sample boxes make me feel compelled to “stay current.” The pressure to create a great outfit for pictures is real, and I worry about what I have is “blog worthy.”

Anyone else feel like me? At times, I feel so silly for worrying about this at all.

I also wonder if I’m becoming a slave to trends. For example, I just ordered a floral skirt, thinking “well, floral prints are in right now” versus “will I look utterly ridiculous in that?” I’ve never been a florals kind of gal! Am I stepping out the box, or just boxing myself in to trendiness?

Let’s talk crop tops for a second. They are HOT this season, and I’ve seen examples of curvy gals rocking them well. I’ve actually starting thinking, “which top should I choose for my blog?”

Not considering: “YOUR BOOBS ARE HUGE, AND YOU’LL LOOK LIKE A BOX.”

Perhaps we’ll skip that one!

One thing’s for sure, I don’t want to lose my own sense of style.

My New Pledge:

1. I’m Not 20, and It’s OK.

2. Not Every Trend is For Me.

3. I Don’t Have to Try to Impress.

4. Stay True to Me.

5. Don’t Buy it Because it’s on Sale!

6. Have Fun with Fashion, Don’t Take it So Seriously!

So, keeping with my new pledge, here are a couple of my new favorite looks. This is truly my style:)

It’s important to try new things to avoid getting in a rut. However, there’s a fine line between being stylish and becoming a fashion victim.

So, if you catch me wearing those Teva inspired Prada sandals – please stop me and send me to an intervention, because I’ve gone too far.

Not for me.

Not for me.

The Great Wait for Spring!

March is one of those “waiting” months. Waiting to shift out of winter, but it’s just a bit unsure when or how. Back in my home state of Michigan, Winter has set up camp for a LOOOONNGG while with no urgency to leave! Thankfully, here in Germany, it’s been more of a long Fall with sneak peeks of Spring along the way. Of course, the warmer spells whets my appetite for SPRING FASHION!

Today was on the cooler side (low 50s), so I had a good excuse to break out my brand spanking new faux leather moto jacket from Fashion to Figure.   I LOVE this jacket, mostly because it’s nice and roomy in the front with plenty of zipping up space! If you are busty like me, you know how HARD it is to find a jacket that has a good fit and zips all the way up!

My cats are going through Spring Fever, too. Whenever we luck out and have a warm, sunny afternoon, Casanova & Roxie can’t wait to sun themselves on our balcony! They can’t seem to understand that we can’t make the sun happen on command…:(

Ahhhhh...sun!

TODAY’S BARGAIN BEAUTY FIND!!! One of the spring trends I’m loving right now is the color blush. While dragging the Hubby around downtown Kaisersalutern (he was a really good sport), I spied this fantastic Glam Eyes HD five color shadow by Rimmel London. Named Burgundy Palace, it’s hardly a royal’s extravagance -just $3.50!

Love the crown!

...and on my eyes!

…and on my eyes!

Thankfully, we don’t need to wait to wear spring eye colors!

And so, with this Saturday winding down, I pack my newest purchases in my closet to wait…and wait…for Spring to stay for awhile. Let’s hope it’s soon!

What are YOU looking forward to finally wearing?

Black and White and Healing Great!

Today was my 10 day post-op appointment from my back surgery, and I was super excited to go mainly because I GOT TO WEAR SOMETHING OTHER THAN YOGA PANTS! For anyone out there who has been cooped up at home recouperating from illness or surgery, you know what I am talking about!

I still cannot wear jeans or pants with a “pinching” waistline, but hey, I am a big fan of leggings anyway, so I pulled out these tuxedo style leggings from ING. I’ve only worn them once so far, and I figure now is a good as time as any! Then I felt like working a black and white look, so I added this super cool top from INC (International Concepts). Check out the pockets!!! Both leggings and pants are from my NYC trip last August and I picked these up at Macy’s.

Cozy, comfy, and stylish for the doctor! I love these pockets!

Oh, don’t let the greenery behind me fool you. It’s probably in the upper 30s today and I took my coat off:) But we STILL have no snow!

Love the tuxedo stripe!

To add a little whimsy, I wore these adorable cat earrings I found at Claire’s Accessories in Kaiserslautern around a month ago. I love cats, and it’s hard to find “cat jewelry” without looking like a five year old!

So "purrrfect!"

So “purrrfect!”

Some of you have asked where I got my boots. They are a brand called Graceland sold at the German “Payless,” Deichmann. Here is the link if you want to buy them, or check out their other styles. Everything I’ve bought from them has been comfortable and very durable.

The good news is, I am healing well. The bad news is, I have six more weeks until I can enjoy a massage, a bath, a sauna, or do any other exercise besides walking. No twisting, bending over, or lifting anything more than 5 lbs. Patience with myself has never been a great quality of mine, so until then, I will walk and blog a bunch more!
