Be Italian: The Vatican

Bonjourno! The Hubby and I are home now in Germany, safe and sound, with a TON of pictures! I’m going to spread out my tales of Italy over several posts with fashion musings mixed in, so I hope you will enjoy!

In St. Peter's Square.

In St. Peter’s Square.

We arrived in Rome around 10 p.m., and the first impression was not great. The area where our train stopped looked sketchy;  a LOT of graffiti on buildings, dark streets, and the rain didn’t help matters, either! I would learn later that unfortunately, Rome has a lot of graffiti. However, Italians are very friendly people and many of them speak good English. Thanks to a helpful waiter in a café we stumbled into, we were pointed in the right direction and found our B & B.

A tour of the Vatican and St. Peter’s Square began our first full day. I cannot say this enough; GO TO THE VATICAN IF YOU EVER GET THE OPPORTUNITY. For one thing, you are visiting a separate state within the city of Rome ( you can buy post cards and send them from the Vatican’s post office!), and the artwork is absolutely STUNNING.  If you do visit Italy, book tours with Dark Rome. You’ll get an excellent guide, and a lot of bang for your buck.

Just one of the hundreds of frescos!

Just one of the hundreds of frescos!

My neck became sore by constantly looking up to see the genius works by Michaelangelo and Raphael.

I cannot really fully describe what it was like to see the Sistine Chapel. Absolutely no photos were allowed, and what I’ll call “professional shush-ers” stood on the edges of the area to keep people quiet (it is considered a church, after all). But looking up and ACTUALLY SEEING “The Creation of Adam” got me emotional. Just unbelievably beautiful!

Since we had a full day of seeing sights, I kept my look comfy and light. My new tunic from American Rag (available through Macy’s), leggings from Forever 21 Plus, and comfy sneaks did the trick. I wore my new rings from A Wild Violet, an Etsy store that does custom work. Check out the Michigan midi ring!

I got the Michigan and crown ring BOTH for just $23.00! The owners often offer discount codes, so be sure to check them out!

Gotta keep it simple for all the walking! My JustFab bag held EVERYTHING I needed for the day!

Many more adventures to come, so stay tuned!

One Jumpsuit, Two Ways

Hello everyone! Happy Memorial Day to my American readers! It’s a lovely weekend in Germany, with temps in the low 70s. PERFECT weather for wearing my new Forever 21 Plus jumpsuit!

I admit, I was on the fence for awhile with the jumpsuit trend. I wasn’t so sure if a curvy, mid size gal like myself could carry it off. However, to my surprise, this jumpsuit is one of my favorite things to wear this summer. It’s so comfy and lightweight!

I've got a Charlotte Russe tunic paired with the Forever 21 jumpsuit.

Today, the Hubby and I took a trip to a local zoo to hang out with the animals. The llamas and the giraffes loved to photo bomb!

AND here’s a steal I got from our Airman’s Attic – a Dooney & Burke purse, FREE!!! Yes, you read that right. I can’t believe someone gave it away, but thank you to whoever did!

All in all, I am 100% sure I will be grabbing a couple more jumpsuits this season. I love how I can dress them up or down; they look great with heels, or with flip flops! Change the accessories, and it’s a whole new look.

Hope you are all having a fantastic week!

Bloggers Unite in Black & White!

With the fabulous Signe Savant!

With the fabulous Signe Savant!

There’s the old saying, “great minds think alike.” For me and fellow blogger and friend Signe Savant, “great fashionistas style alike!”

Signe Savant, of, is “responsible” for turning me on to blogging. She and I are both instructors for a youth facility on a military base (she was assisting me with a pom pom squad!), and I kept noticing her fabulous sense of style. When I asked her one day where she got her clothes, she explained about her blogging and the opportunities/freebies she’s received from various retailers. Well, that definitely got me interested!

Yesterday, at a “good bye” party for a mutual co-worker, we both showed up rocking black and white!

I love her crop top and floral skirt! So chic!

I debuted my new Forever 21 Plus chevron sundress. It’s so super comfortable, and easy to dress up or down.

What else do I love about JustFab? They make a special boutique for me every month (many times I like what they pick, but I can always choose other things) and practically EVERYTHING they sell (bags, shoes, jeans) is $39!  And for those of you who live in the States, you get FREE SHIPPING!! I have an APO address, so I pay an extra $9, but the quality of everything I’ve bought has been worth the extra price.

Even better…if you don’t want to buy something one month, just skip it by the 5th and no obligation. Plus, with any purchase, you earn points towards freebies!

AND…if you refer a friend to sign up, you get a $10 credit! So, if you sign up, I’d LOVE it if you mention me!

OH! So, here are the JustFab “Carrie” boots I wore tonight, too!

Thank You! Over 1,000 Hits!

When I started CURVES RULE a few months ago, I never imagined the day would come when my blog would hit 1,000 hits! Plus, I reached 100 “likes” on my posts as well! THANK YOU to all of you who have followed, shared, liked, and commented!

My goal with this blog is to help create more acceptance of all body types, whether we be petite or curvaceous. Those of us Fashionistas who are a size 14 and up crave beautiful, stylish, and affordable fashion, just like anyone else. More retailers are paying attention (especially online), but we need more fashion in the stores, too. We will get there! Fashion is for ALL!

In celebration of the new milestone, I decided to change up the design of my page. I think it looks cleaner, and I hope you all like it! Be sure to check out my page “Air Force Wife Life” for traveling tales and what it’s like being in a military family. I will be adding on to that part of my blog very soon.

And last, but not least…I am planning my first giveaway soon! With spring coming, it’s time for some cute new things to wear, and I want to thank you by giving something pretty to celebrate! Stay tuned!

It won't be from Jimmy Choo...but the prize will still be nice!

Cosmo Gives a Voice to Curvy Gals; Now Let’s See Them!

I stumbled upon an excellent online article by Anna Breslaw, sex editor of Cosmopolitan, about the realities of being a fat woman. For “What Being a Fat Woman is Really Like,” Breslaw interviewed two women (referred to Woman A and Woman B) who proudly call themselves “fat”. Both women candidly discuss dating, sex, how they handle negativity, and health. I found myself nodding along with many of their statements, especially when Breslaw asks how they feel about other women complaining about their bodies:

“I hate it. I always notice it, and it feels like shit. I was at the salon yesterday and a woman was complaining about getting “so fat” at her waitressing job and she was literally half my size. It made me feel like shit, and I felt bad for her, too. Stop thinking about yourself in such shitty, negative ways! It’s so bad for you. Also, you’re not fat. Fat is just a descriptor, and you don’t match that descriptor in any sense of the word. So stop.”

That’s a major pet peeve with me, too!

As much as I appreciated Cosmo including an article about curvy gal realities, why not include the women’s names? Photos? Perhaps the women preferred to be anonymous, but my feeling is, if they were proud of themselves, then show it!

Or- was it something else? Was Cosmo not ready to show off plus size “real” women?

I’m a subscriber to the magazine, and I enjoy the fashion, sex tips, and current issues. However, I challenge the editors of Cosmo (United States) to include PICTURES of curvier women. Maybe even women over 35! Going back over the past year’s covers, it looks like Jennifer Lopez is the only cover girl over 40. Let’s put money where the words are.

Cosmo holds an annual “Fun, Fearless, Female” award every year. I ask them to be fearless and include more plus size celebrities Rebel Wilson, Amber Riley, Queen Latifah, or Melissa McCarthy. We haven’t seen many curvy gals since Adele’s December 2011 cover.

Now, that would be truly fun and fearless.
