Summer: A Season for Love

Surrounded by love!

Surrounded by love!

I couldn’t think of a better time for the Hubby and I to visit Two Lovers’ Point here in Guam. In light of the landmark decision by the U.S. Supreme Court allowing marriage rights to all, there’s no better place to be than taking in the sights in a beautiful place!

Such a great day to celebrate love! The weather was perfect- warm, but not too hot with a slight breeze. Perfect for debuting my new romper from INC and bag from Just Fab. Comfy and cute!

Though the lovers in the legend die together (very Romeo and Juliet- forbidden love), their devotion reminds me how powerful love is. I cannot imagine my life without my husband, and I am so grateful I can legally be wed. Now all who love can do the same!

Tuesday Shoe Day SOS!

One of my favorites! Heels, JustFab.

Anyone who knows me is aware that I LOVE shoes. I think it’s safe to say I’m addicted. I’ve been known to be stopped cold in my tracks by a gorgeous pair while strolling downtown! Let’s just say if I had the means, I’d definitely give Carrie Bradshaw a run for her money!

Carrie Hello Lover

But here’s a hard slap of reality I’m facing today. I have an old injury to my left knee that’s flaring up, and wearing heels makes it hurt worse. Yesterday, I was feeling all sassy in a newer pair of watercolor print Just Fab heels (so adorable!), and just walking down our stairs made me wince. I actually said to the Hubby, “could you grab my leopard sneaks?”

Now defeated, I am going to have to retire the higher heels for awhile while my knee recuperates.

So, CALLING ALL BLOGGERS AND SHOE LOVERS! SOS!!!

What are some stylish, comfortable low heel/flat shoes I can wear with dresses? I have new skirts and body con dresses that need something sharp!

PLEASE leave brand names, links, etc. I don’t have a ton of time to browse and don’t know what’s good. THANK YOU in advance, I really appreciate it!

Until then, I will put my 4 and 5 inchers in shoe bags, hoping to see them soon. Sigh.

Love, laughter, and shoes…

xx Melanie.

Paris, Part Deux

Ah Paris! This is our third time visiting, and with each time, I fall in love with you a little more. Paris is truly the “City of Lovers!”

In fact, the Hubby and I decided to “lock our love” on a bridge over the Seine, a tradition of many couples.

Four years of a wonderful marriage, nine years together!

“Come What May, I will love you until my dying day.” -our vows.

Lock in Paris

This day, I opted to be comfy by dressing in layers since we’d be out all day.

But of course, I added a little sparkle with these Eiffel Tower earrings to jazz up my look!

One of my favorite things about Paris is visiting museums, and I loved seeing the Musee Rodin which included the iconic statue, The Thinker.

Of course, everyone has to “think” with The Thinker!

The Musee Rodin has an AMAZING garden full of fantastic sculptures! Also, a beautiful pond area and café to enjoy a coffee!

There’s a great view of Napoleon’s Tomb (and with the over the top ornate décor of his tomb, there’s no doubt in my mind that Napoleon would’ve been a fashion designer if he didn’t decide to rule the world).

We checked it out, and yep – this is an example of “Little Man Syndrome.” Great taste in final resting digs, though!

Stunning!

There are few places in this world that can make me drop my mouth with awe. Paris is one of them!

More Parisian adventures to come!

On another note…I found out today I have 100 followers on Bloglovin now! Thank you so much for following and reading. Your comments and likes mean so much! Please leave your links so I can follow you too!

Pressing Forward with Patience

Ah, Daylight Savings Time…gotta love losing that hour! The time change falls a bit later here in Germany, and I’m sure I’m going to feel that loss tomorrow!

Besides the time change, I’m dealing with changing feelings regarding my body. I started physical therapy last week (I had back surgery this past January), and I was hoping my therapist would give me the green light to start swimming and doing yoga. As a former dancer, I miss feeling movement and working up a sweat, plus those things can get me back into better shape.

However, my therapist doesn’t think it’s quite time yet. “We’re going to do strengthening exercises first, but no twisting movements yet. Be patient, and you’ll get there.”

Honestly, I’ve been patient since June 25, 2012 when a car plowed into ours. Ever since then, my flexibility, my ability to go on long walks, exercise vigorously, and dance has been greatly compromised. It’s like my body has been stuck in a long winter, waiting to thaw out and bloom. Patience is starting to wear thin.

Yesterday, a friend tagged me on Facebook to post a #nomakeupselfie for breast cancer awareness. Even though I am frustrated with what I currently cannot do, I AM HEALTHY AND BLESSED.

I am healthy, and have great love!

Being thankful is something that isn’t just reserved for Thanksgiving. I have many blessings – love, family, friends, pets!  Today I am thankful for all these things, plus being able to express myself freely on my blog.:)

I also love to express myself through fashion and makeup, of course! A little sparkle lifts the spirits. Here are a few pieces I decided to debut today!

It’s hard to be patient sometimes, but I am learning the embrace the mantra of, “this too shall pass.”

Love: How Do You Know When it’s Real?

Yesterday, I was around a conversation which involved relationships. A young guy (maybe 22-23) has fallen hard for a girl (around the same age) and after 3 WEEKS of dating, he is already thinking about proposing to her.

What I immediately thought was:

a) THREE WEEKS?

b) You can’t be in love!

c) How many guys out there are like you? (ha ha!)

To add to my astonishment, this guy is one old fashioned fellow. He asked the girl’s father for permission to COURT her. Now, that’s not something you hear every day – “courting,” or asking a parent’s permission!

I shouldn’t judge. Every situation is different. However, I couldn’t help but think what all it took for me to find the real love I have with my husband. After one ex-husband, a few boyfriends, and “acquaintances,” it wasn’t until I “gave up” and focused solely on myself, when I met the Hubby. Even then, during the first six months of our dating I waited for the other shoe to drop. WHAT would he do or say that would prove to me that men were jerks?

He did no such thing. Rather, his acceptance of me (warts and all), support, and sweetness got to me. I felt excitement whenever he called, and my heart did flutter when I would look into his beautiful blue eyes. I WAS IN LOVE!

Nine years together (four married), I still feel that flutter. (sigh!)

February is for Love – Loving Who YOU Are!

Let’s face it; everyone either loves or hates the month of February. It’s either a time to spoil (or get spoiled by) a sweetie, or make like Bridget Jones and eat ice cream, singing “All By Myself” full voice on a Friday night.

I’ve had my share of love/hate moments with this month over the years (thankfully lots of love now!), but what we all could use is more love for ourselves. To truly embrace who we are in this moment. Yes, we’re not all supermodels. Yes, we might have a little more love handles than we prefer. Maybe we’re wishing for more curves like Beyonce’! However, always living in the idea of “I wish I was more like..” will never allow happiness in the present.

It’s not easy to get to this acceptance. As women, we are bombarded daily with images, headlines, and “the ultimate diet/workout” to get sexier, hotter, better. When I was working regularly as a professional actress, I was a size 4 and worked out like mad to stay at that size and still felt pressure to be smaller, leaner. Even a casting director told me, “if you could lose about 10 pounds, you would do better for casting.” I weighed 125 pounds, and those words devastated me.

The girl in the middle (me) is a size 4 and told she needed to lose 10 lbs.

The girl in the middle (me) is a size 4 and told she needed to lose 10 lbs.

Today, I’m a size 14 and weigh around 200 pounds (I check in every other week). I got to my size from various reasons, but the car accident I was in 2012 severely limited the activity I could do. My life as a dancer diminished, and I could not audition for as many projects. Of course, this depressed me, but it was mostly because I wanted to be more active and not because I hated my body. The saying is true – “with age comes wisdom,” and being over 40 made me realize that I deserved to be loved, and shouldn’t I love ME? Besides, our spirits, our hearts, our minds, our achievements, our families, and our friends are to be celebrated and cherished. Our bodies are our shells we travel through life, and they will change!

I’m glad to see the Plus Size movement is beginning to get positive focus from designers, magazines, Hollywood, and advertising. There’s still a long way to go, but in the meantime, send yourself the gift of love this February. YOU are beautiful!

Yes, we all are beautiful!

Yes, we all are beautiful!
