Looking Hot in the Big Chill

Michigan, aka Antartica.

Michigan, aka Anarctica.

Hello lovelies,

So, the Hubby and I are “back home” in Michigan, during one of the coldest freaking winters ever! Today it was actually a semi-tolerable 20 degrees, so the two of us (plus my dad) ventured out to the pier in Grand Haven. Lake Michigan is almost frozen solid! You’d think we were in the Artic!

Brrrrr! But beautiful.

Brrrrr! But beautiful.

Of course,  I had to attempt to be fashionable, so I wore TWO pairs of leggings (these are my new favorites from H&M), a cute knitted head wrap to keep the ears warm, a black peacoat from Paris, and my trusty Just Fab boots. Let the frostbite just try and get me!

While my teeth chattered, I chanted under my breath, “soon I will be in Guam…soon I will be in Guam…”

How are you keeping warm and fashionable? Let me know!

Until next time-

Love, laughter, and shoes-

Borrowing a Little Fabulous from Rent the Runway

Hello all:) Being sick blows! I’ve got a virus that’s wiping me out and keeping me indoors, but I came across pictures from last summer when I visited friends in NYC and Michigan, and I got inspired to tell you about my experience with Rent the Runway.

I had two big events to celebrate: a class reunion and a bachelor party (yes, you read that right). Of course I wanted to look and feel amazing for both, so I turned to Rent the Runway to turn me into Cinderella (or Beyoncé, JLo, etc.).

When I signed up for a membership, this was before RTR began a RTR Plus line (launched late last year), but at the time I was able to select designer label gowns up to a size 16 (the new Plus line goes up to a 22). There is no fee to sign up and you can create a profile with your size, style preference, and “wish list.” Designers such as Badgley Mischka, ML Monique Lhuillier, Kay Unger, and Carmen Marc Valvo are available to we curvy gals!

Depending on the occasion, a dress can be rented for as little as $30 for 4 days (an extra fee for 8 day rental). Every rental comes in a garment bag (yours to keep!), the pre paid shipping envelope, AND a free 2nd size in case one dress doesn’t fit.

For my class reunion, I originally chose a Badgley Mischka midnight blue sequin cocktail dress, but the size 16 was just a bit too tight in the back (this was before the plus line, remember), however, RTR shipped me a different dress the next day! Here is the Badgley Mischka Forbidden Territory gown I chose (wore a 16 R):

Weeerk!

This dress is SO comfortable and hugged every curve! Perfect for channeling your inner Angelina Jolie!

For my best friend’s bachelor party in NYC, I channeled my inner Carrie Bradshaw and chose another Badgley Mischka, the Orion Sequin Orbit Sheath. So chic! I also rented earrings, these Lulu Frost Crystal Cruz Pyramid danglers.

RTR sent me a size 14 and 16, and the 16 fit more comfortably in the bust. My choice was confirmed when my friend and his (then fiancé) now husband told me I looked fierce! I even got some compliments from girls on the street!

My only gripe about Rent the Runway? They don’t ship to an APO address, which is what I have while we live in Germany. I’ve asked customer service about it, and they told me they hope to ship to military addresses soon. I hope so!

So, if you have weddings, reunions, parties, or a special trip taking place this summer, then let Rent the Runway glam you up! I would definitely rent from them again!

Have you tried RTR? What’s been your experience?

Love, laughter, and shoes…

xx Melanie.
